Join alum Lisa Freitag at Magers and Quinn Booksellers on 3038 Hennepin in Minneapolis on Thursday, October 4 from 7 – 8 pm to engage with the topic of caregiving and ethics in parent-child caretaking contexts.
Part memoir and part academic study, this book examines the lives of those parents who are called upon to become caregivers, as well as parents, to their children with multiple special needs. It begins a much-needed dialog between medical providers and the family caregivers who are tasked with carrying out their orders, seeing parents as neither emotional wrecks nor overburdened saints, but as moral individuals who must find their own way through multiple challenges.
Lisa Freitag practiced pediatrics in Minnesota for almost 25 years before returning to school for a Master’s Degree from the University of Minnesota Center for Bioethics. Her interest in caring for children with special needs grew out of meeting parents while in practice as well as growing up with a brother with intellectual disabilities.
