“People who Experience Homelessness Face Earlier and Greater Risk of Death, Report Finds”

A recent study conducted by the Minnesota Department of Health and the Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute documents that persons experiencing homelessness in the state die at a rate 3 times higher than the general population. Minnesota Commissioner of Health Dr. Brooke Cunningham underscored the importance of this research: “This report shines a light on the tragic health impacts suffered by people experiencing homelessness in our state. The findings give us baselines for measuring progress toward reducing health disparities and improving the social, economic, racial and other conditions that give rise to these inequitable outcomes.” She also noted that these findings should ground investment by the state in initiatives to address these challenges.
